Progress on implementation of McMahon report and taskforce to address the implications of the Supreme Court judgment on right to work for asylum seekers

19 Jul 2017

The Cabinet have approved a proposal from the Minister for Justice and Equality, Charlie Flanagan TD, to establish an interdepartmental taskforce to address the implications of the Supreme Court judgment in N.V.H. v  Minister for Justice and Equality.

The taskforce will examine the impact of a Supreme Court ruling from 30 May 2017, that the absolute ban on asylum applicants seeking employment is ‘in principle’ unconstitutional.

The Department also published the Third and Final Progress Report on the implementation of the Justice McMahon Report recommendations on Improvements to the Protection Process, including Direct Provision and supports for Asylum Seekers.
