Launch of EMN Ireland publication on Ireland’s Response to Recent Trends in International Protection Applications.

Ireland, like many other Member States, introduced a range of asylum-related operational, legislative and policy measures between 2014 and 2016. This study examines developments in Ireland during the period. Some changes, such as the introduction of the Irish Refugee Protection Programme and the Calais Special Project, responded to the wider EU refugee and migrant ‘crisis’. Others were introduced to manage or address national fluctuations in asylum applications. The period also saw the introduction of a new asylum application system under the International Protection Act 2015.

This event presented an overview of the study, followed by a response from the Reception and Integration Agency and UNHCR Ireland.
