This ESRI Bulletin examines the extent to which discrimination varies across different national-ethnic groups in Ireland, and asks whether discrimination increased between 2004 and 2010.
Key findings:
- Overall, non-Irish nationals do experience higher rates of work-based discrimination.
- There is substantial variation in discrimination across national-ethnic groups.
- In looking for work, ethnicity is particularly important, the research found that Black Africans and EU nationals of minority ethnicity were particularly likely to report experience of discrimination when looking for a job.
- There is no evidence to suggest that self-reported discrimination increased during the recent recession.
