CSO figures show that over one-third of non-Irish nationals assigned PPSNs were working during 2014

Recently published CSO analysis of records of the Revenue Commissioners, the Department of Social Protection, and the CSO, show that of the 85,724 individuals aged 15 years and over who were allocated Personal Public Service Numbers (PPSN) in 2014, 29,637 had employment (35 per cent).

Other key findings from the analysis:

  • Overall, PPSN allocations to non-Irish nationals across all age groups totalled 96,167 in 2014. This is an increase of 10,997 (13 per cent) compared with 2013 allocations.
  • One-fifth of non-Irish nationals assigned PPSNs in 2009 were in work in 2014 (12,346 out of 62,984).
  • In 2014, the highest number of PPSN allocations by nationality were:-
    • UK (13,817)
    • Poland (9,120)
    • Romania (9,074)
    • Brazil (7,771)
    • Spain (5,195).
  • The social welfare activity rate in year of allocation decreased to 7.4 per cent in 2014 (from 8.5% in 2013).
