Notes: A Public Service Number (PPSN) is a unique, identifying reference number issued by the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection. The PPSN is used to access social welfare benefits and public services and to pay tax. State agencies that use PPSNs to identify individuals include the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection, the Revenue Commissioners and the Health Service Executive (HSE).
The category EU15 excluding Ireland & the UK consists of Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Finland and Sweden.
The category EU15 - EU28 consists of the states that joined the EU on 1 May 2004: the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Slovenia and Slovakia; the states that joined the EU on 1 January 2007:Romania and Bulgaria; and Croatia, which jointed the EU on 1 July 2013.
