Abstract
The current study examines the economic, social and political impact of immigration in Ireland and the provision of supports for immigrants. The focus of the study, where possible, is on legally resident third country nationals. Materials including studies, research and media reports and parlimentary questions were examined in the preparation of this report. The study identified that the number of work permits issued increased nearly eight times from 1999 to 2003. Work permit holders were found to earn 14% less than Irish workers. It was also identified that asylum seekers and refugees have better support than migrant workers to help them integrate into the community.
