The Government has announced that the 2021 Census, a key source of information on migration in Ireland, will be postponed until April 2022.
The announcement was made on 15th September, based on the advice of the Central Statistics Office (CSO). The CSO stressed the need to ensure the safety of the general public and CSO field staff, while delivering a Census of Population that achieves the highest possible response rate, across all facets of Irish society. In addition COVID-19 restrictions have impacted on many key planning activities for the Census. The CSO stated its aim to undertake a comprehensive, inclusive and safe Census in 2022.
