Eurostat figures show 417,420 asylum applications were received in EU-28 for the first half of 2015 compared to 384,485 for last half of 2014, an increase of 32,945.
The largest numbers of applicants (Jan-June 2015) were registered in:
- Germany: 171,785 (41% of total applicants in the EU)
- Hungary: 66,785 (16%)
- France: 32,155 (8%)
- Italy: 30,535 (7%)
- Sweden: 28,985 (7%)
The figures also show that asylum applications registered in Ireland was 1,145.
