The latest Quarterly National Household Survey figures show that there were 282,500 non-Irish nationals in employment in the second quarter of 2014, representing an increase of 6,400 (2.3%) in the period quarter 2, 2013 to quarter 2, 2014. An increase of 1.7 per cent or 31,600 was recorded in total employment (all nationalities) in the same period.
Key figures show:
- Overall, an increase of 1.7 per cent or 31,600 was recorded in total employment in the year to the second quarter 2013.
- Total unemployment decreased by 15.4 per cent or 46,200 for the same period, reducing the total number of persons unemployed to 254,500.
- Employment among non-Irish nationals increased from 276,100 to 282,500 (2.3%) over the year.
- Employment growth was particularly strong among non-EU nationals. This group saw an increase of 11 per cent in the period to 80,100.
- Non-Irish national unemployment in quarter 2, 2014 decreased to 48,300 from 55,400 a year earlier. Some 206,300 Irish nationals were unemployed in the quarter, a significant decrease of 39,000 over the year from 245,300.
