The report is based on a qualitative research study that was undertaken with the aim of gaining greater understanding of the lived reality and food experience of asylum seekers living in direct provision centres in Cork. Several recommendations for the improvement of food conditions are included in the report.

The main recommendation is that the Direct Provision system be overhauled, especially in how food is delivered; self-catering options should be expanded as a matter of urgency; and at the very minimum, communal cooking areas should be made available to asylum seekers in all Direct Provision centres in Ireland.
